"My subject is War, and the pity of War. The Poetry is in the pity."
Thank you! I admire both poets but didn’t know much of their backstories.
Amazing history. I've always been deeply touched by war poetry, ww1 in particular. As a matter of fact, purchased a small pocket book with ww1 poems just today, would not surprise me if Owen's work is among the poems. Was considering sharing some of them on Substack if they resonate witth me, I feel like they have so much powerful messages to convey.
Generations intentionally brutalized to remove them from our multi-generational picture. My grandfather lied about his age to get in and came home with half a lung, his life effectively taken.
What a powerful entry! Thank you so much for sharing this, Marina. I wish more people could read this -- particularly at times like these.
What an incredible story and piece of writing, Marina. Thank you!
Really like the idea that these ww1 officers turned poets are being written about, especially at this time in our history. They saw so much death & destruction that they had to write about it. Thank you for allowing us to learn about these anti war voices of the ww1 era. The first proponents of peace should be the soldiers.
