The perpetual affliction of every generation is to mistakenly presume they have invented everything for the first time....and so humanity similarly suffers the indignity of repeating over and over again the lessons it has 'forgotten' to learn.
Would you please - stop - taking - pictures - on your tiny - annoying (whispering) fucking camera. This is happening to you in real time, you are having the experience. It's not much point to verify that you were at the event when you're actually here.
I grew up in Rochester NY back when Kodak was a big deal. My whole family worked there. I had an uncle with clever habit. Every time he saw a camera lying around, he’d secretly take a picture of himself. So we got the surprise of an “Uncle Ted” photo in our next batch of pics. Let’s add him to our list of “selfie” pioneers.
Thanks for a thought-provoking post. Can you imagine how devastated portrait artists were when they learned that a camera could take the perfect likeness? That technological revolution must have put generations of artists out of business, and I can’t help but think of what AI might do to our own generation.
Absolutely enjoyed this. It’s always so neat to see historic documentation of something we all know and understand well even today!
So glad you enjoyed it!

A fantastic history of the selfie - it subtly takes us back into bygone eras.
Thanks for reading!
