Excellent essay. Historically, mass atrocities didn't happen overnight. Bits and pieces are tested over and over again along with a relentless propaganda campaign to test the public's willingness to believe and not interfere. The tragedy of these dead children should remind us of that.

This was incredibly powerful. I was really moved throughout it, became physically ill when I realised what was in the picture of the jars on the shelves, and was almost in tears by the end of it. I haven’t been this moved by a piece in a long time. Thank you, Marina.

What a great account of history concerning prejudice and ableism. I am finishing Edith Sheffer's book "Asperger's Children" and, even though I knew about the eugenics practices in WW II, it hit me reading about the children in Viena. Being neurodivergent myself and having been harassed by teachers e schoolmates as a child, the subject is a lot personal to me as well. For instance, I intend to keep sharing information about the subject, specially with those who seem to ignore any concrete facts. We must keep history alive for we live in times where even the obvious is being questioned. Thanks for your assey, it's incredible and very interesting.

Thank you for sharing this about a very dark time in history. I worked in many capacities with special needs individuals and grew to really care about them. It’s horrific to think that the people I cared for would have been tortured and exterminated simply because they were born with a disability. These people who did this were monsters in human form.

You may or may not suffer from a disability and yet it is wrong for you to think you are different from everyone else because you have an "Official Diagnosis." Check out CCHRI for their incredible research on the sham medical psychology has become, hooking everyone on synthetic chemicals for which there is no clear path to undo. The direct parallel between the mistreatment of these youth and the identical manner in which the last three generations of children were abandoned by their parents to a sophisticated and devious intent to do harm cannot be denied. A 'natural childhood' has become a fairy tale ideal. Human society has been intentionally derailed through the use of chemicals foreign to the human body and this has been going on for 150 years. I call it the Great Chemical Mistake. And the torture continues...
