The moment has finally arrived.
I've worked on a baseball-related photograph.
And that's not just any photo: this one was shot during a game between the All-Star Teams at Griffith Stadium in 1937. Lou Gehrig, Joe Cronin, Bill Dickey, Joe DiMaggio, Charley Gehringer, Jimmie Foxx, and Hank Greenberg are seen from left to right.
All seven would eventually be elected to the Hall of Fame.
Truth be told, I know nothing about baseball history - something I intend to change soon because I had so much fun working on this shot that I already have at least three others planned. I could claim that this is because I'm Brazilian and we don't have baseball here, but I also know nothing about football (or soccer, if you prefer). My apologies to all the sports enthusiasts.
A little research on the internet tells me that:
"(…) the 1937 Major League Baseball All-Star Game was the fifth playing of the midsummer classic between the All-Stars of the American League (AL) and National League (NL), the two leagues comprising Major League Baseball. The game was held on July 7, 1937, at Griffith Stadium in Washington, D.C., the home of the Washington Senators of the American League. The game resulted in the American League defeating the National League 8–3.
The game, attended by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, is remembered because of a play in which Earl Averill of the Indians hit a ball that struck Cardinals pitcher Dizzy Dean on the toe, breaking it; complications from this injury-shortened the career of the future Hall of Fame pitcher.”
If you'd like to know more details about the match, I leave you with this great website. And you can actually listen to the whole match here, which is pretty awesome.
Before I leave…
Pre-order my new book, A Woman’s World - the third volume in our (mine and Dan's) wonderful The Colour of Time series. If you support this one - and pre-orders are really important if you want to do that - a sports-related one could be the next…
Prints are available here.
I have something in the works for paid subscribers… More details soon!
Thank you all for your support,

Hi Marina, loved the baseball picture. I am a huge baseball fan and historian, if you have any questions I would be glad to help answer them. Thanks, Greg
